小説家を夢見ていたショーン・ロトマンは、ニューヨークで偶然一人の女性と出会う。後に妻となる女性とアフリカ大陸を皮切りに世界中を旅し、やがて京都に行き着き子どもを授かるまでの個人的なラヴ・ストーリー。先々で撮影された感情的なスナップショットと、流れては留まる心の機微を捉えたエッセイで構成される。英語と日本語表記。
This is a personal love story of the author’s travels around the world with the woman who would later become his wife, starting on the African continent and eventually ending up in Kyoto, where he became a father. The book is composed of emotional snapshots taken in various places and essays that capture the subtleties of his heart that flow and stay with him. All prints are Risograph. The colors used are fluorescent pink, aqua (light blue), yellow, black, burgundy red, red, and blue. The book, which is finished with carefully layered plates, can be said to be the achievement of Risograph printing. The book is bound completely by hand, one book at a time, using thread. Original prints are included.
Sean Lotman●1975年生まれ、ロサンゼルス育ち。2011年より京都を拠点に写真家、また作家として活動する。ロンドンの出版社〈Bemojake〉より初写真集『Sunlanders』を発売。アメリカ、デンマーク、イギリス、オーストラリア、台湾など、多くの国で注目される。2020年１月、ベルギー・アントワープの〈IBAHO gallery〉で本作品『Middle Life Notes』からの写真が展示される予定。
本書は、完全リソグラフで印刷した写真集である。使用した色は、蛍光ピンク／アクア（水色）／イエロー／ブラック／ヴァーガンディーレッド／レッド／ブルーと多色にわたる。丁寧に版を重ね、インク汚れを消し続け、4色・5色で仕上げられた本書は、ある意味でリソグラフ印刷の「到達点」とも言えるだろう。
製本は完全な手作業で、1冊ずつ糸をかがって製作されている。糸ががりの上にカバーを巻き込み、表3に写真家がプリントしたオリジナル写真が貼られている。
